Infinité

Description

Xtentia worked with AMA Architects to deliver the prestigious Infinité building opposite the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Bedford View, Johannesburg.  The development featured in the Architect and Builder Magazine among a special selection of commendable projects.

The development comprises of 200 high end residential units in a 15-storey building including double basement parking, curved facades, and a long span entrance structure feature.  The site presented a challenge with confined working space enclosed by residential properties and busy street fronts bordering the property.

Stability to the building was provided by means of a combination of shear cores and rigid frame interaction. Transfer structures provide a suitable link to enable compatibility of the unique residential and parking floor layouts. Many different structural concepts were considered in the design phase to obtain the most suitable for the project, including concrete frames, steel frames, precast panels, hybrid systems and combinations thereof. A comparison was made between using conventional walls versus lightweight walls and presented to the client for consideration with the advantages and disadvantages of each.  Stormwater attenuation is carried out below ground on site to relieve the pressure on the existing council stormwater network during peak downpours.
