Description
Xtentia was appointed as structural engineers to design a new 12 000 m2 steel frame warehouse for a new steel factory. The warehouse structure had to support seven crawling cranes spread out across the factory, varying from 5 – 20 tonnes each. The cranes imposed a multitude of load combinations on the structure, with varying crane operational schedules resulting in multiple load combinations. A clear headroom of at least 12m was required, with clear spans of 25m in each of four bays. A concrete retaining wall was required along two elevations that needed to be able to support a heavy 20 tonne / m2 surcharge load.
